Art Literacy

What is Art Literacy? Art Literacy is coordinated by the Stafford PTSA and funded through the PTSA Annual Fund donations.

This is a volunteer program designed to introduce children to art and artists. It is presented by prepared volunteers to grades K through five. Several programs are presented in the classroom during the school year. The volunteers use slides, prints, pictures, and three dimensional art forms to illustrate and lead discussions about art and its place in history.

“Art expresses ideas in visual form, much as a book expresses ideas with words. How can you figure out what a work of art is about? Begin with open eyes and an open mind. You bring your own opinions, background and experiences to interpreting an artwork and there can be many different interpretations. Look, question and talk about what you see with a friend.”

This is a Volunteer program that depends upon support from parents from each classroom.  If you are interested in volunteering to help develop and deliver the program, please email
